Michigan has so much beauty to offer. As senior season quickly approaches, you may be wondering “Where am I supposed to even do my photos?!” Here is a list of 10 spots in Michigan I love photographing at and some locations I’ve photographed at 10+ times alone. There are options in this list ranging from downtown, to flower farms, estates, fields and beaches. All of these locations are within an hour of Detroit, Michigan.

Downtown Detroit, Michigan

This spot has so much to offer. Detroit is a beautiful spot to get all the downtown vibes you want. There are so many spot to take senior portraits at, that you could spend hours exploring and walking around Detroit. Locations such as Parkers Alley, The Detroit Institute of Arts, The Z Parking Garage, and all the side streets offer so much variety for your senior portrait sessions.

Downtown Rochester Hills, Michigan

Downtown Rochester Hills is a cute area for walking, shopping and stopping for some coffee.

Belle Isle Park, Detroit

Belle Isle State Park is such a beautiful spot for portraits and recreation. It has so many spots to offer for portraits, you could easily spend an hour or two here exploring and photographing at all the different locations. Some of my personal favorite spots to photograph at is the Belle Isle Casino, Fountain, and Oudolf Gardens.

Bear Creek Park is a quiet and hidden gem in Rochester Hills.

Nichols Arboretum, Ann Arbor

Nichols Arboretum in Ann Arbor is part of the University of Michigan. During the months of May and beginning of June, the peony garden at the beginning of Nichols Arboretum is a stunning spot for photos. This park has a variety of trails, water access, and spots for photos.

Heritage Gardens, Shelby Twp

Heritage Gardens is a small but quaint park with beautiful flowers and garden area for portraits. This is a popular spot for prom, engagement, wedding and senior portraits alike.

Stoney Creek Metropark, Shelby Twp

Stoney Creek Metropark Has a Lot to offer. I have photographed countless senior and engagement sessions at this park. This is a beautiful spot through all seasons. There are beaches, trails, fields and more for a unique session.

Ankley Family Farms, Imlay City

Ankley Family Farm was first introduced to me form a friend. After an instagram reel from a senior session went viral, I started getting a lot of request for sessions at the flower farm. It’s $7 per person to take photos at both from and back fields.

Cranbrook House and Gardens

This is a very well known spot, no introduction has to be made. Every spot on this campus property is absolutely stunning and you could spend hours exploring the grounds. Cranbrook House is a stunning property to take engagement, maternity, wedding, senior, and family photos at. This is a spot I’ve been to countless times, and love every chance I get to go back there. There is a $300 permit to photograph here for 2 Hours.

Quarton Lake Par, Birmingham

Just past downtown Birmingham, is a quaint little park. It is a great spot for mini sessions are starting here with flowers and a view of Quarton Lake.
